Parents ask state AG to look at civil rights complaint against Buffalo schools

A parent group is asking the state attorney general to get involved in its civil rights complaint against Buffalo Public Schools.

The District Parent Coordinating Council recently asked the U.S. Department of Education to force the district to provide black and Hispanic students more access to its top schools, primarily City Honors.

Now, the parent group is reaching out to the state attorney general's Civil Rights Bureau in hopes it also will consider the complaint involving City Honors, as well as other civil rights concerns, like teacher diversity and access to advanced placement courses, said Samuel L. Radford III, president of the parent group.

The state Attorney General's Office confirmed that officials have spoken with the parent group. The office is reviewing the matter, although there is not yet an open investigation, according to a spokesperson.
