US fears of 5G cell network fueled by Russian propaganda, NY Times reports
A Russian TV network identified as a propaganda arm of the Kremlin has launched a campaign to fuel fears in the United States about the safety of 5G cell phone networks, according to the New York Times.
The Russian campaign comes as Mayor Ben Walsh has pushed to make Syracuse one of the first American cities connected by a 5G network.
The network RT America has broadcast eight shows since last year that selectively report the most sensational claims about the health risks of 5G and amplify the voices of Americans who raise concerns about the technology, the Times reported Sunday.
The U.S. is trying to win a worldwide race to deploy 5G technology, which promises high-speed mobile networks that can connect the “internet of things” such as driverless vehicles. President Donald Trump says the high-speed data networks are essential for America to keep a competitive edge over China and rival nations.
