Gov. Andrew Cuomo made declawing cats illegal in New York Monday. (Photo by DAnn Lawrence White/Patch)
NEW YORK The Empire State has become the first in the nation to make declawing cats illegal.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed it into law Monday, threatening anybody who performs the procedure unless its medically necessary with a fine of $1,000.
"Declawing is a cruel and painful procedure that can create physical and behavioral problems for helpless animals, and today it stops," Cuomo said.
"By banning this archaic practice, we will ensure that animals are no longer subjected to these inhumane and unnecessary procedures."

OP
Saw that on the local news last night. I've always used vets who refused to declaw healthy cats.

Remember, it is only a couch or chair that can be replaced. Nothing on Earth like the love of a cat or dog.

I will never be able to replace my two soulmates.

I have an 8 month old rescue puppy. He was supposed to grow up to be less than 10 pounds. He weighs 17 pounds at this moment.
I think my blue and gold macaw likes him but it makes me nervous to watch Hal and Miss Frodo going almost nose to nose when he stands up on his hind legs. He looks like a Border Terrier.

To, "declaw", the vet has an instrument that crushes and removes the first joint of a cat's toes. Sometimes they cry, even though knocked out.
