Sen. Schumer recommends 3 women for federal bench vacancies in New York

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that he had recommended a trio of women with civil rights backgrounds to fill federal district court vacancies in New York.

Jessica Clarke, 38, who serves as chief of the civil rights bureau in the state Attorney General’s office, is Schumer’s pick for an opening on the prestigious federal district court in Manhattan. Schumer also recommended Nusrat Choudhury, the 44-year-old legal director at the ACLU of Illinois, and Nina Morrison, 51, an attorney at the Innocence Project, for posts on the federal district court in Brooklyn.

The three judges will need to be nominated by President Biden and then approved by the Senate in order to move forward to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District and Eastern District of New York. Schumer said the proposed jurists would bring unique knowledge and experience to the federal bench.
