A friend and I were on the Northway yesterday headed from Albany to VT and happened upon this accident just after it happened. It looked awful. We got chills passing the overturned bus. Tons of emergency vehicles on both sides of Northway (this happened South bound). There were papers strewn all over the ground behind the bus. Law enforcement did a good job reducing 3 lanes to 2 Northbound. That part of southbound was obviously closed, so we found another way home. It was daylight, no precipitation, roads were dry. The road is straight there. We were wondering if driver had a medical emergency, deer ran out, blown tire, another vehicle cut the bus off? Feel terrible about the one death--hope others who are injured end up ok.

And it had to have been really bad to have made the national news. I live near West Mountain Road and regularly drive north to either Lake George or Warrensburg - and I do know that there was road work the last time I took the Northway. At least it was still light out and no snow - yet - or it could have been even worse. Thanks so much for sharing what must have been a frightening experience. I also feel terrible for those poor passengers.

My passenger noticed the emergency lights first. I had noticed the road work signs, so figured it had something to do with that. We were shocked when we saw the bus.

Bus traveling from Montreal to New York City rolled over near Lake George by Northway's Exit 23

LAKE GEORGE — One person was killed and 11 others injured, one seriously, after a tour bus rolled over Friday afternoon on the Northway in the town of Lake George, State Police said.

Troopers responded to the 12:50 p.m. crash in the southbound lanes between exits 23 and 22, Trooper Stephanie O’Neil said. Warren County sheriff’s deputies and members of the county Office of Emergency Services also responded, county spokesman Don Lehman said.

The Skyway Coach Line bus was carrying 23 people including the driver at the time of the accident, State Police said. The highway remained closed as night fell Friday, but the 511NY website later in the night no longer showed it as closed.

State Police are still investigating the crash and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or the bus before the crash, to contact the State Police at Troop G headquarters at 518-783-3211. The agency is also asking the public to check if they have any dash camera videos that may have recorded the incident.

Randolph Franklin, 71, of Loudonville, who was traveling north on the highway with his nephew when they saw the overturned bus in the southbound lane, told the Times Union the weather and road conditions seemed clear in that area.

Glens Falls Hospital received 12 patients, none of whom were in critical condition, spokesman Ray Agnew said. One person was airlifted to Albany Medical Center Hospital, spokeswoman Sue Ford said. State Police said 10 of the people taken to local hospitals had injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
