ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) - Illicit pot shops are on the chopping block in New York as a state task force makes sure cannabis retailers are in the green legally.
In just three weeks, the New York State Cannabis Enforcement Task Force has shut down more than 100 illegal storefronts according to Governor Kathy Hochul.
The task force, which was launched by the New York State Police, has been working for about a month as part of Hochuls goal to get unlicensed pot dealers out of the market. According to Hochul, shutting down under-the-table retailers has increased legal sales by 27%.
That makes the difference between staying open and closing. That means you can continue paying good wages to your workers. It means that your supply coming up from the farmers can have a resource, a place to sell it. It means youre going to be prosperous; youre going to be able to finally live the dreams that youve been delayed for too long, said Hochul.
