2022 North Carolina primary elections results

WHAT TO WATCH
More than a dozen Republicans are competing to keep the Senate seat vacated by retiring Sen. Richard Burr in Republican control, including former president Donald Trump’s pick, Rep. Ted Budd, and former governor Pat McCrory.

In the 11th District, Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) is facing a collection of challengers from his own party.

North Carolina’s status as a battleground state holds true this election cycle. Both parties have their sights set on the seat opened by retiring Sen. Richard Burr (R), which will be a key target in the battle for control of the Senate in November. Redistricting battles in court pushed the primaries back two months, and the new districts resulted in a few highly competitive primaries in the Tar Heel State. Most notably, Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R), who has had a scandal-plagued first term in office, is facing a long list of challengers from rival Republicans in the 11th District.

Senate

The state’s open Senate seat has a fiercely contested Republican primary with more than a dozen candidates on the ballot, including Trump-endorsed Rep. Ted Budd, former governor Pat McCrory and former congressman Mark Walker. Former state Supreme Court justice Cheri Beasley is the front-runner on the Democratic side. If Beasley wins in November, she would be the state’s first Black senator.

I'm mostly excited about the prospect of Cheri Beasley going to Washington. If she wins in November, she'll be the state’s first Black senator. Imagine that!! ❤

Both endorsed by tfg. But Budd may be our best chance to win the Senate seat, because he's so radical. It's scary that he won the primary, but maybe enough unaffiliated, libertarians and rethugs won't vote for him and a huge democratic voter turnout will make the difference.

Cawthorn is an embarrassment to his party and the NC 11 district, where I live. I'm happy he lost.
