SPOTLIGHT RACE: David Hill for NC-SD07
Dr. David Hill has spent his career caring for childrens health in North Carolina. A Memphis native educated at Rice University and the University of Texas McGovern School of Medicine, he moved to North Carolina in 1994 to join UNCs nationally top-ranked residency program in internal medicine and pediatrics, graduating in 1998.
He moved to Wilmington in 2002, where he and his wife Christy, a pediatric physician assistant, have raised 5 now-adult children. He continues to practice inpatient and outpatient pediatrics, most recently with UNC Childrens Health at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center and at the MedNorth Community Health Center. Christy provides behavioral and mental health care to youths at Coastal Horizons.
Hill especially appreciates how the citizens of southeastern NC come together when their health, welfare, and way of life are threatened, whether by a natural disaster like a hurricane or by a man-made disaster like drinking water contamination. As a leader in the North Carolina Pediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Hill knows that the mission of child health extends far beyond the exam room, and he has never hesitated to speak out for children and families, from Fox News to CNN and from The Wall Street Journal to The Washington Post.
David and Christy love running and cycling together all over the Cape Fear region, from their home in RiverLights to Wrightsville Beach and beyond. Huge fans of regional seafood and produce, they can often be found at locally owned markets and farm stands scouting ingredients for their next meal or sitting with one of their 4 rescue dogs at area coffee shops, bakeries, or breweries. Wherever they go, they enjoy meeting the people who contribute their joy, their talents, and their hard work to making New Hanover County a uniquely amazing place to live.
