that his campaign for U.S. Senate has $2.7 million in the bank – far less than the $13.5 million Sen. Rob Portman has to spend on his re-election bid.

Strickland, a Democrat who hopes to unseat Portman in November, announced he had raised more than $1.5 million between Jan. 1 and March 31. The campaign also announced that fundraising more than tripled during the period when Portman announced he would not consider voting for President Barack Obama’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Strickland campaign raised more than 29,000 contributions – more than 90 percent under $50.'
