Ohio Democratic Party asks Justice Elena Kagan for help preserving Golden Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Democratic Party filed its formal request Thursday to Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan asking her to allow Golden Week voting in the November election.

The Democrats requested that the court grant a stay -- a hold on a ruling -- to keep a decision from the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals from taking effect. That ruling, made earlier this month, overturned a U.S. district judge's finding that changes in Ohio law to shorten the period for early voting and eliminate Golden Week were unconstitutional.

The filing is directed to Kagan, who is the associate justice on the Supreme Court assigned as circuit justice for the 6th Circuit.
