COLUMBUS, OhioDemocrat Ted Strickland's U.S. Senate campaign is cutting spending on TV ads, going off the air completely in most of the state through mid-October, a campaign spokesman acknowledged Friday.
The former governor's campaign has canceled roughly $1 million worth of ads in Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown, according to Strickland spokesman David Bergstein.
Strickland has reserved additional air time in Columbus and Cleveland, Bergstein said, but the increased spending there is less than the spending reductions elsewhere. The spokesman declined to say how much additional money the campaign plans to spend in the two remaining markets.
The withdrawal is the strongest sign to date that Strickland's campaign is floundering, as recent polls show Republican incumbent Rob Portman with a sizable lead over the former governor. While outside groups have pulled millions worth of planned TV ads from the race in the past three weeks, this marks the first time that Strickland's campaign itself has canceled ads.

(36,705 posts)saturated the airwaves with bullshit about Strickland. I read about three weeks ago that the Democratic party was pulling their ads for Strickland. I live in eastern Ohio and as far as I can see there is zero evidence of any national Democratic campaign. Today I was sitting at an intersection where everyone puts up their campaign signs and I counted 37 signs all together and there were zero Hillary or Strickland signs and I would guess 4 or 5 each for Trump and Portland. Is it the Democratic party only cares about the big city votes anymore.
