University of Cincinnati board approves contract with professors union

The University of Cincinnati and its professors union have reached a collective bargaining agreement, which was approved by UC's board of trustees at a special meeting Thursday.

The new terms of the contract, which would be in effect until 2019, were described as a compromise between the administrators and the American Association of University Professors, which represents the faculty. The agreement is tentative until all members of the union vote, which is scheduled to be completed next week.

Board chair Rob Richardson Jr. called Thursday's trustees meeting into executive session to discuss the terms of the contract. Board members then reconvened publicly and unanimously voted without comment to approve the contract.

Vice provost for academic personnel Matt Serra, who led negotiations on behalf of UC, said the main issues boiled down to economics – specifically salaries and benefits.
