FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) - A server at Applebees Neighborhood Grill & Bar who did not like Black people ignored an African American couple and their two young sons while all white customers were promptly served, including those who came in after them, a federal lawsuit alleges.
The suit, filed Friday by a prominent civil rights law firm, accuses the national chain restaurant of race discrimination at one of its now-closed locations in Ohio, specifically the northern Cincinnati suburbs of Fairfield Township.
The restaurant off Princeton Road near Ohio Bypass 4 shuttered in the past year, FOX19 NOW confirmed Monday. It was not immediately clear why.
The plaintiffs are Butler County residents Natisha Harrison and Benneet Harrison, who have been married for more than eight years, according to Gerhardstein & Branch law firm in Cincinnati.

(6,212 posts)sure hope they win the lawsuit. That server should never have a job serving the public. Why did that manager at Applebee's keep her on if it was known she was a racist and treated customers that way.

(38,958 posts)The wife & I were ignored by the wait staff. I will be skipping them in the future and going to the local places. I have pretty much given up on the chain restaurants.

The only one that I went to was in Brenham about eight years ago. I waited for five minutes for the hostess and requested a booth because I don't like sitting in the middle of the floor and I also don't like uncomfortable chairs. Ten minutes elapsed and nobody came to the table or even served me a glass of water. I could have understood if they were busy, but there were only a half-dozen people there and it was already at the end of the dinner rush.
I got up to leave and the hostess asked me why so I told her the exact reasons and kept on walking. I could have easily run up a $25-$30 tab and I'm a generous tipper. I never went to Applebee's again.

(38,958 posts)It's a shame, but restaurants are really a dime a dozen and it seems chain restaurants even more so. In the last two years we have gotten the "benefit" of a Raisin Cane's, Popeyes, McCallisters, Culvers, Chik Fil A and MOD Pizza within a 5 minute drive of the house. Walked out of the new McCallisters when I walked in and the place reeked of a sour mop, walked out of the Applebees as mentioned above and the rest I have just not really found of interest.
My Money will be spent with the hometown local spots that appreciate our business.
