Ohio lawmakers rejected Gov. Mike DeWines last-minute offer Wednesday, voting instead to override his veto of a bill that would change how health orders work.
The Senate voted 23-10 to make Senate Bill 22 law instead of starting over with the ideas from DeWines office; the House followed in a 62-35 vote. Both votes were largely along party lines.
DeWine has vetoed four bills since his term began in 2019; Wednesday marked the first time legislators voted to overturn one.
The law will let lawmakers reject or modify any state health order as soon as its given, and let the legislature extend or end states of emergencies. The bill takes effect in 90 days.

(34,255 posts)DeWine chose this, his chickens coming to roost. He danced with and promoted the hard harder right wing. Now they are after him.
He showed weakness on the proposed gun legislation after the Dayton Massacre in 2019 and his wimpy wussy response to the threats against Dr Acton in Summer 2020 & the first proposed replacement for her.

He sucked up to Trump to get help in Ohio. That failed, too.
