Some teachers 'terrified' over new bill allowing educators to carry guns in school

Teachers in Ohio are frustrated after lawmakers passed a bill Wednesday that would allow them and other school staff to carry guns in school safety zones, with little training.

The bill overrules an Ohio Supreme Court decision from last year that required teachers to receive gun training equivalent to the training police officers receive. If signed into law by the governor, it would create a minimum training commitment of 24 hours for teachers who voluntarily choose to carry guns in schools.

"I think that the idea to arm teachers is a way for lawmakers to pass the buck on much bigger issues," Tate Moore, a seventh-grade English teacher in Ohio, told ABC News.

Moore said he is worried about the "unintended consequences" of teachers carrying guns in schools, saying something bad could happen.

So your a teacher in a room with 20-35 raging fearless teenagers. Do you really want to worry about one of them taking your gun off you? No of course not.

classrooms, administrative rooms, board rooms, and teachers rooms, as well as school parking lots, college classes, and public meetings/hearings.
PLEASE believe me - there are some teachers out there that should NOT be allowed to carry anything sharp, no matter how many times they tell you not to run with scissors. And for some of them to be behind a steering wheel - OMG!

And they want to give them weapons?

It's NOT a matter of how much training they may receive - it is a matter of WHO you are training!

If this goes nationwide, we'll see a nationwide teacher strike.

The teachers' unions are against this. I would quit if I was told teachers would be armed. Teachers do NOT want this. Can they force the teachers to do this?

the killer in Texas. Now they want teachers with 24 hours training to get slaughtered doing it. Who will protect the kids
when the teacher goes off the rails and starts shooting them? Why not arm the kids too?

8. Ohio Teachers Can Now Bring Guns to Class After Just 24 Hours of Training

Educators and other school staff in the state of Ohio will now be able to carry a gun in the classroom after undergoing 24 hours of training.

Republican Governor Mike DeWine announced that he had signed House Bill 99 (HB99) into law Monday morning, according to multiple outlets.

The law, according to the outlet, changes the number of required training hours needed for school personnel to carry a gun. Originally, 700 hours of training was required and, with the signing of the new law, school personnel who want to be armed will have to undergo 20 hours of first aid training as well as four hours in "scenario-based training," outlets reported.

Additionally, with the new law, those members of school staff who do decide to arm themselves in the classroom will be subject to eight hours of annual "qualification training," according to WKYC.
