My neighbor called me today and said there is a Covid relief program available through the Community Action Program. I had a bad connection and I'm supposed to call her back. She said she heard of it from a friend, but her ins. agent also knew about it. You have to make an appointment and bring income information and information about your utility bills and houses ins. I think she said that if you qualify, the program will pay utility bills and house ins for 6 months, and she might have said house payments. I really need to call her
Right now, information about the program is word of mouth. So I am passing it along, in case it is state wide If anyone knows about this program, please comment.
I will update my post after I talk to her. At this time, I don't know if it is given out like the stimulus checks were, or it it'll be needs based. My neighbor is on a fixed income, but it it more generous than my fixed income.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) state of emergency has created uncertainty regarding unemployment, loss of benefits, and other assistance programs. Here are some resources and information that could be beneficial for family members, direct support professionals (DSPs), and agency providers.

(19,009 posts)I have an appointment for 8/17
The cap is 103,000.00 annual income.
I need to bring proof of income for the last 30 days, and last bills from gas, water, electric, Internet, trash and sewer. I will have already paid my house ins. and taxes, so the program won't pay for those. But geez, if they pay my utilities for 6 months, that'll defray the cost of my taxes and ins. quite a bit!
I'm sure glad I heard about this

(19,009 posts)Thanks for the idea
I've really been passing it along word of mouth
I know it is available in my county, my state. We are considered Appalachia. But I imagine since it is money from the federal government, it is available in general. I don't know what agencies in other areas/states would handle it. I don't know the exact name of the program either, just Covid relief.

(19,009 posts)I went to my appt. today. I was scatterbrained and forgot to take a couple papers, but no worries, I can drop them off. They will pay my electric bill that's due tomorrow, and start the other payments in Sept. Woohoo!
I didn't switch everything over to my name when my husband died, so I need to show them his death cert. and they will cover those bills. The Community Action folks need to get copies of our utility bills, ins. and tax bills, and proof of income, and I think the maximum you can earn is $102,000.00 but not sure if that is gross or net.
It is a Covid relief program for homeowners. It will pay gas, electric, water, sewer, trash, Internet but not cable, house insurance and property taxes if either are due. It is for 6 months.
I'm happy that I qualified for the program. I will spread the joy, I hope
