State of Emergency Declared in Oklahoma City Due to Coronavirus
The emergency was announced at a Sunday evening press conference with OKC Mayor David Holt as well as Oklahoma County health officials.
“Limiting close personal contact is our only real tool of mitigation, and on the advice of public health officials, and with the confirmation of local spread, we feel it is now time to do more,” Oklahoma City mayor David Holt said. “I do not proclaim this state of emergency casually, and I am fully aware of the gravity of the moment. But this is a time to protect the people of Oklahoma City.”
Holt said a COVID-19 case announced Sunday was the result of community spread.
Holt also announced a ban of gatherings of 50 people or more at city-related events.
