Many Oklahoma educators say theyre worried for whats ahead after Oklahoma State Secretary of Education Ryan Walters defeated his opponent, Shawnee Public Schools Superintendent April Grace, in Monday nights Republican primary runoff for State Superintendent.
At his victory party Tuesday night, Walters declared his win over Grace was a definitive statement by the people of Oklahoma about the direction they want to see public education head.

Oklahomans have spoke loudly and clearly tonight, Walters said. Oklahomans repeat that they want a better education for their kids and theyre concerned that theyre not getting that.
But it was a different set of emotions for Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association President Shawna Mott-Wright and her fellow teachers.

(2,630 posts)I may be seeing everything through recent developments in Florida, but here billionaire corporate Christofascist donors ultimately want to eliminate PUBLIC schools and privatize education so that public tax dollars flow to them, so they can use it to open substandard charter schools, control curriculum, and buy compliant state politicians to further their policies.
Teacher qualifications mean nothing to them, just money and power. They'll use our money to pay for fancy expensive private schools for their kids. Getting their candidates into state power is the first step.
