First step of Oklahoma Capitol exterior repairs: Hundreds of windows

A giant forklift hoisted sections of scaffolding into place on the northwest side of the state Capitol on Wednesday to prepare for the first step of exterior repairs — replacement of 477 century-old windows.

Mortar also will be replaced, and limestone blocks will be repaired and cleaned.

Josh Martin, a vice president at J.E. Dunn Construction, explained the project as workers tethered to the building assembled the steel framework.

“Step one, we want to do some preliminary cleaning,” he said. “We want to get the lead paint off the windows and get the window out of the hole.
