Some voters find Oregon’s limited influence in presidential election freeing

Offered with no comment.

Some Oregon voters are reveling in the luxury this presidential election of living in a state where their vote is unlikely to be decisive.

Those folks will follow their hearts or cast protest votes without worrying what effect they’ll have on the presidential election, such as whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton will live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

In presidential elections, Oregon has landed reliably in the Democratic column every election since 1984, when the state joined the nation in President Ronald Reagan’s landslide. The two George Bushes were elected three times without Oregon’s help.

In the Nov. 8 election, Clinton is projected by statistics website fivethirtyeight .com as 95.8 percent likely to win the state and its Electoral College votes vs. Trump’s 4.2 percent chance. Clinton is projected to win 52.6 percent of the Oregon vote; Trump, 40.3 percent; and Libertarian Gary Johnson, 5.7 percent.

The list is long. As our state motto proclaims: She Flies With Her Own Wings.

Let us keep soaring!
