MAGA hat led to assault outside Portland bar, police say
Two people have been arrested after allegedly assaulting a man outside a Portland bar early Saturday because he was wearing a Make America Great Again hat.
Adebisi Okuneye, 23, and Leopold Hauser, 22, were booked in Multnomah County Jail and are each charged with one count of third-degree assault. Both were arraigned on Monday afternoon.
Portland police said that around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a disturbance Growlers Taproom in the 3300 block of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. Officers found an injured victim. After gathering suspect information, they stopped a nearby van and arrested Hauser and Okuneye.
According to the Multnomah County District Attorneys Office, the victim told police officers he was assaulted while wearing a Make America Great Again Hat," the slogan for President Donald Trumps 2016 presidential campaign.
