Voter turnout above 33% now

Link to Oregon Secretary of State's Unofficial Returns here.

There was some talk here last week about the pitiful turnout numbers, which have just about tripled since then. I do not expect to see any apologies.

You can look over the returns for yourself at the link but I'll point out one or two things: First, Oregon has closed primaries, so registered voters can vote only for their party candidates, so an independent like Betsy Johnson (candidate for governor) doesn't have to subject herself to a primary challenge. Second, Democratic turnout at this time is just under 45%, Republican turnout just above 47%, and Democrats have still cast over 110,000 more ballots than Republicans.

I'll reserve doom and gloom for a situation in Oregon that might actually call for it.

Hopefully, when all the votes are counted, the Dem votes will have crushed the R votes. We need a fingers crossed emoji here. I admit to turning in my ballot on the last day, but I did get it done. Oregon does everything that they can to make it easier to vote. There was also information included with the materials that pointed out that the amount of time needed to count all of the ballots means that the outcome to the races for many candidates wouldn't be known right away at the close of polling on Tuesday.
