Fluoride on the mind: Hillsboro puts water additive on the ballot

To fluoridate or not? That is the question facing Hillsboro voters.

For the first time in 70 years, Hillsboro is posing an advisory vote to citizens on whether or not to fluoridate Hillsboro Water's drinking water supply. The question will be on the ballot this November — however, because it’s an advisory vote, the city isn’t necessarily held to the decree of its citizens.

The last time Hillsboro residents voted on fluoridation of their water supply was in 1952. The vote passed, but the following year a voter-submitted petition was filed to put fluoride on the ballot yet again. That time, it did not pass, and Hillsboro’s water has remained without fluoride since.

Last year, a pro-fluoride advocacy group informed the city of its intent to petition for a ballot measure, which involves gathering signatures from voters.

The corruption and over billing and complete abandoning of US certified and competent dental laboratories in favor of unregulated Chinese prosthetics manufacturing is why I decided to retire. After 40+ years.

I was operating out of a free dental surgery clinic for a few months after I retired, but that ended soon after - the unhinged and ungrateful and downright awful patients who came for free care destroyed any joy I might have felt being of service. It was seriously disheartening.

Notice that the so called "holistic dental" communities are rife with anti-vaxxers, frauds, conspiracy nuts, and MAGA - they are anti fluoride conspiracy nuts also.

The Story of Fluoridation

It started as an observation, that soon took the shape of an idea. It ended, five decades later, as a scientific revolution that shot dentistry into the forefront of preventive medicine. This is the story of how dental science discovered-and ultimately proved to the world-that fluoride, a mineral found in rocks and soil, prevents tooth decay. Although dental caries remains a public health worry, it is no longer the unbridled problem it once was, thanks to fluoride.
