Pittsburgh tops list for first-time homebuyers
The city took the top spot on a list ranking U.S. cities on how affordable and welcoming they are to first-time homebuyers. Livability ranked Pittsburgh first and said that most of the citys homes are reasonably priced to a family that earns the local median income.
The median price of homes currently sold in the city is $171,100. And its Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) is 82.9%, according to the website. Which means homes for sales are affordable for most people.
The site lauded Pittsburgh as: a great community to belong to, with three major-league sports teams to cheer for, a thriving arts scene, a beautifully restored downtown, and just enough of that Rust Belt grittiness that Pittsburghers proudly love.
Heres the full list:
1. Pittsburgh
2. Oklahoma City
3. Cincinnati
4. Pueblo, Colo.
5. Winston-Salem, N.C.
6. Knoxville, Tenn.
7. Louisville, Ken.
In March, Pittsburgh made another Livability list landing eighth in Top 100 Best Places to Live for 2019.
Livability says they explore what makes small-to-medium sized cities great places to live using proprietary research studies.
