State universities' faculty contract negotiators report progress as talks continue

A three-day bargaining session between faculty union and managers of the 14 state universities’ system concluded on Friday with reported progress being made.

Negotiations will restart on Monday with the sides planning to continuing meeting each day through Friday on reaching an agreement on a labor contract to succeed one that expires on June 30.

“We’re tackling difficult issues, but we are making progress,” said Ken Mash, president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, in a statement released Friday afternoon. ”We appreciate the willingness of the system’s representatives to engage openly about important topics.”

Neither side is releasing information about the topics covered during negotiations thus far.
