A Westmoreland County, PA, couple have been charged with assaulting each other in pre-Christmas mutual combat after the man grew angry that his girlfriend was wrapping gifts for her other boyfriend, police said. Daniel W. Hill, 50, of North Huntingdon, threw a chair at Diedra L. Dibucci, 50, of Trafford, around 4 a.m. Tuesday and then threatened her with a kitchen knife, according to a criminal complaint.
The incident unfolded at a home in Trafford. Police said Ms. Dibucci called 911 to report that her boyfriend was threatening her. Officers forced their way inside with a crowbar and found Mr. Hill, clad in only a T-shirt, lying on the floor of a second-floor bedroom. His face and neck were scratched, police said.
He told police that his girlfriend beat him up, and that he hit her twice in the face or head in self-defense. He also said that he had put a kitchen knife under the couch in the living room, and that his girlfriend had tried to stab him with it, according to the complaint. Asked what happened, Ms. Dibucci said that she was wrapping Christmas presents in the dining room and Hill became angry because she was wrapping gifts for her other boyfriend, the complaint said. They argued, and Mr. Hill threw a chair into a glass cabinet, shattering it, according to the complaint.
Ms. Dibucci told police that she did not want her boyfriend jailed, but police arrested him anyway. He was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Police charged Ms. Dibucci with aggravated assault.
Both smelled of alcohol, police said.
