A rally in Harrisburg protesting the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police appears to have turned ugly.
A PennLive photographer on the scene is reporting that protesters had surrounded a police car along Front and Forester streets and were chanting obscenities at officers. Police in riot gear reportedly arrived and responded by shooting pepper spray into the crowd.
A video posted to our Facebook page by one of our photographers shows a crowd of protestors surrounding a police vehicle.
Police in riot gear showed up, said event organizer Eamonn Wrightstone via text to PennLive reporter Brian Linder. People have been hit. Children have been tear gassed. Its pretty bad.
In a follow-up text, Wrightstone called what was happening, scary (stuff).
