Illegal lawyer's 11 1/2- to 35-year prison sentence overturned by Pa. court
Saying it needs to be recalculated, a state Superior Court panel has overturned the 11 ½- to 35-year prison sentence imposed on a former attorney who defrauded multiple clients out of tens of thousands of dollars and kept practicing law even after being disbarred.
That decision, outlined in an opinion by Senior Judge John L. Musmanno, doesnt give Kristi Fredericks a free pass out of the pokey, however.
Musmanno, upheld her multiple criminal convictions, but sent the case back to Chester County Court to have a new prison sentence imposed that will consider whether Fredericks is eligible for admission to a special recidivism reduction program that would enable her to reduce the length of her jail stay.
Fredericks, 45, of Downingtown, was sentenced after a county jury convicted her on 23 criminal charges. Those counts included theft by deception, theft by extortion, forgery, records tampering and unauthorized practice of law.
