Related: About this forumJust got a fundraising email from PA Lt. Gov. John Fetterman asking for
support for his 2022 campaign to fill Toomey's seat.
Seems like a good one. Any thoughts on his odds of winning? Who else might he be going for it?
Admittedly, I'm kind of under-informed on state politics. How is it that with all the Pennsylvanians living in "Alabama in between" repeatedly giving our state legislature to Rs that we have a Dem governor? And who do we have to try and replace him in 2022?

(10,021 posts)Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey jolted a new political fight for 2022, announcing Monday that he'll retire from the Senate at the end of his current term and won't mount a bid to become the state's next governor.
The move sets up a battle for his competitive seat in the next midterm election in a state that is key to the 2020 presidential race. A wave of Republicans will be eyeing the chance to replace Toomey, while Democrats now have an opportunity to potentially gain another seat in two years in the currently GOP-controlled Senate. Aside from judges, Toomey is Pennsylvania's lone statewide-elected Republican.
"I will not be running for election in 2022 and I will not be running for governor," Toomey said, standing alongside his family at a press conference from Allentown, Pa. After the final two years of his term, he said, "my plan is to go back to the private sector."
Toomey had long been rumored to be the next candidate to run for governor. However, the state is evolving politically and has increasingly seen a growing shift in many pockets from red to blue.

I believe Mr. Fetterman has really increased his name recognition a lot in the last couple years. In southwestern PA we've known about him a long time as a great mayor and a stand-up guy.
Now that he's wearing suits, he's getting more TV time.

I believe he even rides a motorcycle at times, or he used to.
