50th person from Pennsylvania arrested in U.S. Capitol riot, charged with assaulting cop

The FBI has charged a Berks County man with assaulting three federal police officers as well as a journalist during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, making him the 50th person from Pennsylvania to be arrested in connection with the insurrection.

With a taser in his hand, Alan William Byerly of Fleetwood charged at several police officers outside the Capitol, then continued to assault them while they attempted to restrain him, the FBI said in his criminal complaint.

About 2 p.m. Jan. 6, law enforcement had formed a line of bicycle racks at the Lower West Terrace to use as a barrier between them and the crowd, which according to the FBI, had become violent. As Byerly charged toward the line “seemingly unprovoked,” several police officers yelled, “Taser, taser, taser,” to warn others, the FBI stated.

Law enforcement restrained him and took the taser, but he continued to attack the officers, the FBI stated. He tried to take an officer’s baton and caused one officer to fall to the ground. Then, helped by another rioter, Byerly fled, according to the FBI.

Prior to that, Byerly had been caught on video assaulting a journalist, dragging, pushing and hitting him, according to the FBI.

60 arrests in Florida, 50 in Pennsylvania, 48 in Texas

how much anger from these dimwits would have been absorbed and worked off vicariously with beer and football last fall?

Throwing it out there for discussion.

We’re Number 2!!!!!

Seriously, I’m thinking an ‘advantage’ was the close proximity to DC (extra credit to those traveling distances! )

Quite a diverse electoral base here - we have work to do to “get more blue!”
