Republican Charlie Gerow, who owns Harrisburg-based Quantum Communications, was in an accident on Wednesday night outside Philadelphia in the westbound lanes of the turnpike.
A man on the motorcycle was killed. A statement from the firm said Gerow is cooperating with the state police investigation and is confident it will confirm that he did not cause the accident.
Gerow has run for numerous offices in the past and declared for governor last month.
The Philly Inquirer has a longer account which said a turnpike worker claims Gerow's car was traveling for miles with a motorcycle wedged in its grille until the state police finally stopped him. We all know where the GOP is involved, "I didn't do it" = "guilty as charged". We shall see....

(33,756 posts)In an interview Friday, Forgette said the first thing he noticed were sparks coming off a car that was traveling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lanes of the turnpike. He and members of his construction crew who were with him were dumbstruck, he said.
Everyone was in disbelief, he said. That is not something you see every day. It was a big motorcycle, too. There were a bunch of sparks. And it was very loud.
Forgette, who works for a traffic control company in Pottstown, said the cars driver was pulled over by State Police several miles down from where he first saw him. He said the driver was sitting on a guardrail, stone-faced and kind of disconnected.
When he saw the car, he said the motorcycle was sitting upright, with the side stuck into the front of the car.

(16,306 posts)This could well have been a true accident. The issue isn't hitting the motocyclist, it's not stopping once he did.

(16,306 posts)didn't cause the initial accident. Still no excuse to "speed by" construction workers without stopping. Wouldn't a normal person think "what the heck just happened?" if they ran over a big motorcycle. Further, wouldn't you SEE a motorcycle lying in the roadway?
