David McCormick, a combat veteran and business executive, is being encouraged by prominent Pennsylvania Republicans to enter the Senate race, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions.
The former Treasury Department officials entry would shake up the GOP primary in one of the nations most important Senate elections next year a contest in which former President Donald Trump has already made an endorsement.
Trump in September announced his support for Sean Parnell, who is now attempting to weather domestic violence allegations made by his estranged wife in an ongoing child custody dispute.
A native of the Pittsburgh area, McCormick currently runs Bridgewater Associates, the worlds biggest hedge fund with over $140 billion in assets. He boasts a glittering resume after graduating from West Point and Army Ranger School, McCormick served in the Gulf War, where he won the Bronze Star, went on to earn his Ph.D. from Princeton, worked at McKinsey and served as a top Treasury official in the George W.
