Suspicious fire damages portable toilet outside central Pa. visitor center
A fire at a portable toilet in Lancaster is being looked at as incendiary and suspicious, police said Sunday. The Lancaster City Fire Department responded to the first block of West King Street at 3:02 a.m. Sunday, where they found a fire outside the Lancaster City Visitors Center at Penn Square.
The fire was spreading causing structural damage to the historic building, as well as damage to the windows police said. The center also filled with smoke.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire but determined that it began in a portable toilet next to the building. There were no injuries reported from the fire.
The fire department determined that the fire was incendiary in nature meaning it was caused by a person, but investigators have not designated it as arson as of Sunday afternoon. Lancaster police were brought in to investigate.
Estimates of the damage caused were not known by police on Sunday.
