state House!
There's 203 state House reps, but by my count on the PA Dept of State website, Dems have won 102 seats. That's exactly 50% + 1.

(35,664 posts)Mastriano is out after this term is up, am I right? He gave up his seat to run for Governor.

PRETZEL
(3,245 posts)but he's a state Senator so it doesn't matter.
And that we flipped the state House is unbelievable.
Thanks for the info.

(16,303 posts)Summer Lee and Austin Davis are two of the 103. Since Lee is going to Congress and Davis will be LtGov, there will be two special elections to fill those seats. But both HDs are in heavily Dem areas and should stay D.

(17,273 posts)did NOT hear that there had been a possible 'flip' in the House! THAT'S FREAKIN' FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
Now, what with Mastribato losing his run, plus new DEMOCRATIC Governor & Lt. Governor, we have a chance of actually doing some real 'governmentin' - you know, meet, discuss, resolve.
One can only hope.........

(16,296 posts)Strong union state, strong blue state - hope it is going back to its labor roots, its common sense.

(17,273 posts)but we also had a history of voting for 'liberal' Republican senators - Hugh Scott (one of the Republican senators that went to the White House and told 'Tricky Dicky' that he's be impeached if he didn't resign)((Oh, and what 'Republican' went to tell tRump the same?)) - and John Heinz, a 'liberal' Republican who was killed in a helicopter crash.
But yes, we DID have a reputation of being a good, blue-collar DEMOCRATIC state.
But then again, that was back when 'CORPORATIONS' were not 'PEOPLE!'

(16,296 posts)That was when there was some sanity and politics wasn't decisive - in those days you felt, even if voting for a Rep, that they were somehow decent and loved Democracy (Tricky Dicky aside).

(17,273 posts)actually wanting to 'SERVE' the people......

(16,303 posts)As of now, Dems have won 101 seats. The House has 203 members, so 102 is a majority.
Right now the balance hangs on HD 142 where the Dem, Moffa, is leading by 2 votes. HD 142 is in lower Bucks county, the area just north of Bensalem and west of Levittown. There are a lot of expat Philadelphians from the white, more conservative areas of the city in lower Bucks, especially Bensalem, but this district is north of that and bit more Dem friendly.
It looks like all the votes have been counted in Bucks, so there'll be a recount. If there are mailed ballots left to count, those will favor Moffa. If, after the mailed ballots are counted, the margin of victory is less than the number of military/overseas ballots outstanding, those have another week, iirc, to arrive.
HD 151 is also very close with the R ahead by 26 votes. This district is in Montgomery Co, on the MontCo/Bucks border, just north of Abington and east of Landsdale. Per the MontCo election page, there are 4,331 mailed ballots along with provisional and military/overseas still to count overall in MontCo.
