SPOTLIGHT RACE: Bill Petulla for PA-HD28
After graduating from Washburn University School of Law, Bill turned down offers at big law firms, instead starting his career as a parental advocate representing families facing the loss of their children. He then represented abused and neglected children across Allegheny County at KidsVoice.
Continuing his passion for public service, Bill pursued a career as criminal prosecutor in Allegheny Countys District Attorneys office where he has spent the last 15 years working tirelessly to keep our streets safer. Early in his time as a prosecutor, he worked on the general docket where he prosecuted a wide variety of crimes, later transitioning to the Domestic Violence unit where he fought to bring justice to victims and families across Allegheny County.
Recognized as a leader within the District Attorneys office, Bill was named to the Homicide unit for more than 3 years where he prosecuted Allegheny Countys most violent criminals. In Bills current position as the Chief Trial Deputy, he leads a large team of prosecutors as they work to ensure justice is properly served in the face of violent crime.
While in leadership at the District Attorneys office, Bill has worked to increase diversity on staff and increase access to implicit bias training for members of his team. As a prosecutor, Bill is conditioned to working in a high-stakes, high-pressure environment where every action has consequences on peoples daily lives. His experience working closely with attorneys on both sides of the aisle is emblematic of the bipartisan approach to crafting legislation that Bill will take once elected to the State House.
An avid sports fan and Little League baseball coach, Bill and his wife, Kathleen, are raising their three young sons in Richland Township with their rescue dog, Ginger.
