PA Trivia: How do you pronounce the second word in Bala Cynwyd?

How do you pronounce the second word in Bala Cynwyd?

A. Kin-wood
B. Sin-wood
C. Sin-wid
D. Sine-wide

I know, and I will post it later. But first I want to find out how many other Pennsylvanians know the answer. As you can see on this Wikipedia map, Bala Cynwyd is a small town in Montgomery County, close to Philly.

But I live in Pittsburgh and not many of us are frequent visitors to the other side of the state.

I've heard it pronounced "Sin-wid" and "Sine-wide" by people who have never been there.

Yes you're correct ... it's pronounced "Sin-wood".

In Welsh I would pronounce it approximately KUN-wud, where "u" is pronounced at in "put." (In the list above "A" is closest.)

Showed him the name and asked him to read it. He said Bala Kinwood. I've lived in Philly, and just outside of the city, northwest suburbs 15 minutes from Bala Cynwyd for 35 years. Everybody around here, and in the City Line Avenue where Bala Cynwyd is, pronounces it wood, not wid. The guy that plays violin with me grew up in Bala Cynwyd, I'm going to text him and ask him how he pronounces it

But wood is how most Philly people pronounce it. Honestly, having lived in the Philly metro area since 1971, moved to Philly in 83, I've never heard kin so I asked the guy who plays violin behind me, and good friend who grew up in Bala Cynwyd. He said he's heard people pronounce it kin but its not the norm. Just an aside: He went to the same HS as Josh Shapiro
