Dauphin County voters face sticky situation with mail-in ballots

Some Dauphin County voters are encountering an unforeseen sticky situation.

Thanks to the rain and high humidity that has settled over the region over the past two weeks, mail-in ballots are arriving in mailboxes with return and security envelopes already sealed by the moisture.

While it’s not a problem affecting the vast majority of voters who requested mail-in ballots, Chris Spackman, Dauphin County’s director of elections, said he didn’t have the exact number but said it is significant enough that it has the phones in his office ringing.

He said it’s the first time Mother Nature caused a ballot problem. In the past as in the recent cases, he said voters are told to gently open the envelope and apply tape to seal it unless the envelope is damaged too badly.
