RHODE ISLAND

1. GET REGISTERED
Get registered to vote with your current name, at your current address, by 30 days
before Election Day. To be registered for the November 6th, 2012 General Election,
you must register no later than October 9th, 2012.

In Presidential elections, if you are not registered to vote, or you registered after the
deadline, you can go to your City or Town Hall on Election Day and register and vote
for the President/Vice-President only.

2. WHAT TO BRING
Make sure you bring one of these forms of identification with you:
Acceptable Photo Identification
• A RI Driver's License
• A RI Voter ID Card
• A U.S. Passport
• An ID issued by a U.S. educational institution
• A U.S. military ID
• An ID card issued by the United States or the State of Rhode Island
• A Government issued medical card
• An Employee ID Card
• An ID issued by a commercial establishment
• A Credit card or debit card
• A Health club ID card
• An Insurance plan identification card
• A Public housing identification card
• Acceptable Non-Photo Identification (Except for birth certificates, social
security cards, and government-issued medical cards, non-photo ID must
contain your current name and address, and must have been issued after the
recent general election on November 2, 2010)

• A Birth certificate
• Social Security card
• A Government-issued medical card
• A Utility bill
• A Bank statement
• A Document issued by a government agency
• A Lease or rental statement
• A Student ID
• A Tuition statement or bill
• An Insurance plan card

3. VOTE!
Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th, 2012, and polls will be
open from 7:00 a.m/8:00 am. to 9:00 p.m.

VOTE BY MAIL:
Rhode Island has absentee voting for any registered voter, and no excuse is required.
Mail ballot applications must be filled out completely and received by your local board
no later than 4:00 p.m. on the 21st day before the election in which you wish to vote.
So, if you want to vote by absentee ballot in the general election, you should make
your request no later than October 16th, 2012. All mail ballots must be received by the
State Board of Elections at 50 Branch Avenue Providence, R.I. 02904 by 9:00 p.m. the
night of the election. Identification is not required to vote by mail ballot.
