The area I'm looking at is at 12th Ave and Elm. It's low income and as a retiree that's what I'm looking for. Is there anything negative that I need to look out for? What are the positives?

It is a little bit inland, but still close for hurricane damage, and tornadoes.
But the positive, in 10 years you will have almost beach front property. Except for the billionaires condos blocking the ocean view.
And another positive, gettin out of Jersey before Christie gets back as Gov.
And soon 12O degrees with 95 percent humidity will be normal.
Was stationed in Charleston during Navy, Conway was close enough to know about it. You drive through, keep eyes straight ahead and break no laws, but if you are black, good luck with their laws.

You could find pockets of Democrats back then, though.
I was glad to be far enough away from Myrtle Beach, which was just too silly a city for me.
The high humidity does require a constant battle against mildew.

(9,955 posts)The move. My concerns mostly would be threats of powerful storms and the heat and humidity.
The other life threatening things are armies of dog size cockroaches and mosquitos The likes of which have never been seen. The size of crows. And all very thirsty. Doesnt bode well for non vaxxers.
I bet JFK Jr would get vaxxed there to prevent Melania
..oops, I mean Malaria.

(113,817 posts)We live in WNC mountains now - humidity is still a thing, but, 10 degrees cooler than Conway. And less mosquitos.
Mountaineer too. Left the Navy in 78, came here for college and a career here followed. Feel blessed.
Had enough ocean in the Navy, and coastal roaches and mosquitos.

(14,238 posts)The good news is youre only about an hour an a half north of Charleston, which is very progressive (even though they managed to gerrymander it so they dont have a Democratic Representative).
SC is about 55/45 Repub, with the Dems concentrated in the Columbia and Charleston areas.
