Rep. Brian White provides seminar on fuel tax

The subject is old, but state Rep. Brian White's slide presentation of the fuel tax was new.

It was convincing to at least one of the observers at Monday's meeting of the First Monday Club.

"I thought it was a good presentation," said Anderson County Councilman Tommy Dunn. "I had seen most of those numbers here and there, but this was the first time I've seen them put together like this. None of us like to raise taxes, but we have to do something with the roads.

"In the past year, I get a sense that the attitude is changing. They've kept it (state fuel tax) at 16 cents now for a long time, and I think people realize that as long as we keep doing things (legislatively) that are revenue-neutral, that doesn't generate any additional revenue."
