Dixie Furniture to close in downtown Charleston after 71 years

Another longtime downtown Charleston home furnishing store will soon turn out the lights.

The owners of Dixie Furniture at 529 King St. announced Monday they are closing the store after 71 years in business.

Its shops in North Charleston and Walterboro will continue to operate.

Founded in 1946, Dixie Furniture Co. served residents of the Charleston area with bedding and home furnishings and especially the College of Charleston student population during late summer with the back-to-school rush.
