Gov. Bill Lee said he'll call a special session to elect a new speaker. Now what?

Nearly a month after the House Republican Caucus passed a vote of no confidence in Speaker Glen Casada's leadership, Gov. Bill Lee now says he will call a special session for members to elect a replacement.

Lee made the announcement Saturday evening while talking to reporters just before the start of the Tennessee Republican Party's Statesmen's Dinner.

Why will the Tennessee legislature have a special session?

Casada, R-Franklin, announced last month that he would resign from leadership Aug. 2, though he would continue serving as a representative.

His decision came after a May 20 no-confidence vote by his caucus amid a scandal largely involving sexually explicit text messages he had sent about women.
