House Democrats seek expansive probe into Casada's expenses
NASHVILLE Lighting some fireworks in advance of the Fourth of July and a looming August special session, House Democrats are calling for a wide-ranging investigation into the expenses of resigning Speaker Glen Casada.
Were not going to allow a special session to become a tool for a cover-up, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Stewart said in a Wednesday press conference.
Stewart, a Nashville attorney, sent letters Wednesday seeking a full audit by the Tennessee comptroller and investigation by the Davidson County district attorneys office into spending by the House speakers office since Casada took the post in January. He also filed a public records request of the speakers office.
In that letter to Casadas chief of staff, Stewart requested documents for all expenditures since January, all time sheets, parking garage records and emails for Michael Lotfi, a political operative hired by Casada but not required to come to the office.
