Business owners would be able to vote in elections where the business property is located, even if the owner doesnt live in the same place as the business, under a bill being considered by the Tennessee General Assembly.
Its sponsored by Knoxville Republican state Sen. Becky Duncan Massey, who says its an issue of taxation without representation.
The bill expands property rights voting, which allows non-resident property owners to vote where they own. Cities may permit non-resident property owners to vote, according to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
The effort is mainly targeted at suburban Knox County residents, and out-of-state business owners wouldnt be able to vote under this measure. Masseys bill would give two members of an LLC the right to vote and states: An individual must not vote more than once in an election.
