Man arrested after reportedly assaulting nurse at UT Medical Center

Officials with the Knoxville Police Department said a man was arrested after reportedly assaulting a nurse at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Sunday.

According to KPD, officers responded to the 400 block of Walnut Street on Sunday, July 4. Police said Jonathan Rennels, 32, was attempting to fight citizens in the area. One person was found unconscious following the incident.

Police said Rennels had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Authorities transported Rennels to the UT Medical Center for medical attention.

Remember when some of y'all were skeptical of this happening under the new law that went into effect on July 1? I don't know if he's the first, but I'm pretty sure he won't be the last.

Personally, I was surprised they did that.

It’s just like the one they did in another state, but on a different day.

I live in Tennessee and have no clue to what new law or even an old law that could be blamed for this type of behavior.

People here are often post stuff without offering any context for their statements and expect everyone else to know what they're talking about.

If people are posting about that thing that happened in Portland, then everyone should know what they’re talking about. Unless they live under a rock.

…go all the way to Tennessee for this kind of thing.

I’ll bet they don’t even have this law there.

Signed by Bill Haslam yrs ago.

But seems as if there's a newer one too, just can't find it now.
