Nashville's tourism chief bumps 3 party bus companies from membership rolls amid regulation push

Nashville's tourism chief is giving three party bus companies the boot.

The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. deactivated the membership of three entertainment vehicles earlier this month as the tourism organization pushes for entertainment vehicle regulations.

The NCVC informed the three businesses that their memberships were being made "inactive" on Sept. 8. Those that already paid the annual membership dues were refunded, and those whose membership was up for renewal were not renewed.

"At a time when the NCVC is working to regulate this category of party buses and tractors, we did not feel it was right to keep their membership payment," NCVC President and CEO Butch Spyridon said in a statement to The Tennessean. "In the interest of fairness and not appearing hypocritical, our board felt this was an appropriate measure. We hope to work with these companies again in the future."

The businesses with deactivated memberships are The Nashville Tractor, Honky Tonk Party Express, and Upstage Party Bus. Annual membership fees depend on levels of benefits, according to the NCVC. The deactivated businesses paid fees of between $595 and $1,950.

Somebody has pissed someone off! Probably the bars long lower Broadway getting pissed that their 85 year old 'attraction' aspect has now faded and they don't like the newbies taking their business. So, in typical business fashion, instead of making themselves more appealing, they just 'regulate' the competition out of business. I do love how they want to bring up 'crowding' and 'noise' issues. Go walk down Broadway between 1st. and 9th. street on a weekend or go to a hockey game and talk to me about 'noise' and/or 'crowding'. The businesses wanted the circus, and now they don't want to deal with what that entails? Hysterical...

2. The idea of being trapped on a party bus, blaring country music and chock full of drunks

Is about as entertaining as being sucked into a Heironymus Bosch painting while wearing cowboy boots.
Nobody wants to interfere with the flow of MONEY, but these busses shouldn't be allowed to sell alcohol to their passengers.

4. Hume-Fogg students call for party bus regulation

"We deserve to learn in peace." That was the message from the student group "Hume Fogg for Peaceful Learning" on Tuesday afternoon.

Students from Hume Fogg Academic High School, which is located in downtown Nashville, held a press conference to call for more regulation in Nashville's party bus industry, also known as "transpotainment."


Students and teachers detailed many instances when they say their day has been interrupted due to the noise of the party buses that pass by their classrooms.

Julia Wolf-Dubin, who is the student leader for the group, said Hume Fogg students report hearing noise from the party buses several times a week. In one example, students reported being disrupted while taking the ACT exam.

Another student, Nora Tate, said students have been flashed, yelled at and had things thrown at them by people on the vehicles.

"The music they play, the things they are drinking and the language these intoxicated people use is inappropriate to have around a school," Tate said."....(more)
