Former Chattanooga Police Chief indicted on 17 charges

Former Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy indicted on misconduct, forgery

A grand jury indicted her on 17 felony and misdemeanor charges:

6 counts of official misconduct
3 counts of forgery
3 counts of perjury
3 counts of false entry in governmental records
1 count of false entry on official registration or election documents
1 count of illegal voter registration

A release from the TBI says agents determined Murphy "knowingly entered false information on several government documents related to establishing residency in Chattanooga, though swearing to their truth in signing the documents."

Attorney Jonathan Turner says...

"I can only assume they've come to a determination that she's not a resident of Tennessee, and if you're not a resident of Tennessee, you can't register and or vote in Tennessee."
Documents we obtained appear to show inconsistencies in Murphy's residency.

A part of Murphy's renewal contract with the city specifies she must be a resident of the state of Tennessee during her appointment as chief of police.
