Gov. Greg Abbott asks for task force to address Texas' teacher shortage

Gov. Greg Abbott is directing the Texas Education Agency to immediately create a task force to develop solutions addressing the raft of teacher vacancies.

Abbott sent a letter to the agency Monday, a day after his Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke outlined several of his own education policies in a town hall in Dallas, repeatedly stressing the importance of teacher recruitment, training and retention.

Teacher vacancies have been a national concern over the past two school years as the pandemic added to already difficult work loads and high stress levels. Staff shortages led to many campus closures in the area when COVID-19 cases spiked last semester.

In his letter, Abbott said the task force “should investigate the challenges teacher vacancies are causing for school districts, explore best practices for addressing this shortage, and research the possibility for flexibility of certification, placement, and hiring.”

behind their backs, told what and how to teach, or not getting paid enough. I doubt it has much to do with COVID. With all the FAUX outrage over the teaching CORRECT and FACTUAL history surrounding race and Slavery, Teachers are getting fed up to the point of leaving the profession and going into other areas.

Look at Florida and the insane "Don't Say Gay" law. Texas is not doing its best either in treating students with dignity or celebrating diversity. When Politics enters the teaching profession, there can be only trouble down the road.

Quit being a Nazi thug. I imagine there are good, honest, left-leaning people in Texas who can teach, but won't, because you want to be a Nazi goon and fight back against CRT, along with terrorizing trans teens.

However, since you cannot stop being a Nazi, then the only answer is for you to resign.

So, create more teaching jobs by quitting yours, Governor Hot Wheels.

Texas has a teacher shortage because shit flows downhill. From the governor's mansion, and from whatever hole Dan Patrick calls home.

Hire underage female minority drop outs at sub-minimum wage to serve as baby sitters for the youngest.

Abbott wants to destroy public education anyway.

republicans want to destroy public education. I think many republican states have teacher shortages because of their policies that make it difficult for teachers to do their jobs.

The way Republicans usually "fix" things is to abolish them.
