Former Nacogdoches couple suspected of spying for Russia
A former Nacogdoches couple suspected of spying for Russia faces federal charges after investigators say they stole the identity of two dead children and used them for decades.
Walter Glen Primrose and Gwynn Darle Morrison, both in their late 60s, were arrested Friday at their home in Kapolei, Hawaii, on four counts related to identity theft, and court filings this week link them to Russian intelligence.
Defense attorneys say the links to espionage are pure speculation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The couple made Nacogdoches their home in the 1980s before Primrose used a fake identity to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard and later become a Department of Defense contractor.
A judge decided Thursday that Primrose will be held without bail while awaiting trial. Morrison’s detention hearing was delayed until Aug. 2.
