Enough power should be available but an atypical number of power plants that use coal or natural gas have been forced offline, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Wind turbines are also producing relatively less power compared to past summers.
Forecasters for ERCOT, which manages the power supply for most of the state, expect energy demand could hit 81,230 megawatts at 4 p.m. This would surpass the record for highest energy use 80,148 megawatts set last July.
Weather officials issued excessive heat warnings for a large swath of the state, including central and southeast Texas, where the heat index could reach 117 or 118 degrees.

(805 posts)CPS Energy has asked me twice this week to turn my A/C off between 3-6 to save energy (temps above 100F). They try to make it a game by giving a ranking as to the best out of 100 customers. We had hundreds of people die a couple of winters ago because they decided not to follow federal regulations (Texas has its own grid that the government decided to disconnect from everyone else).

(2,309 posts)On almost every day I produce more power than I use, which the power company gets free if charge. They owe me.
Ive lived all over the country, and Texas electrical power is the most expensive and least reliable. Not to mention deciding on which provider to be allowed to screw me over is confusing as all hell.
